Senior Statutory Planning Officer

A 12 month maternity cover position has arisen at Council for an experienced, self-motivated and efficient Statutory Planner to manage the fast-track application process for one of Melbourne’s largest middle ring municipalities. The rapid turnaround of permits associated with this post requires the incumbent to demonstrate both an in-depth knowledge of the planning scheme and the ability to clearly and concisely communicate planning scheme requirements to applicants and residents of a diverse background.

Specifically, you must possess the following skills, experience and attributes:

• Recognised tertiary qualification in Town or Regional Planning (or similar)
• Detailed knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act, Subdivision Act, Planning Schemes and other associated and relevant legislation
• Significant experience preparing and/or assessing and processing development applications
• Experience preparing and presenting appeal submissions before VCAT
• Strongly developed communication, interpersonal and people management skills
• Effective time management skills with the ability to organize your own time and workload to achieve targets within designated timeframes
• Superior customer service skills including strong negotiation skills and the emotional resilience to handle stressful situations and effectively manage conflict
